Memories Left on the Tracks

Written by:

At one point we were two people waiting together for the same train

Excited, passioned, love filling our eyes

And while waiting, as time passed, we began to wander

Distracted by the noises and sights of our environment

The hymn of the birds, the way in which the leaves fell

And in those distractions we began moving so far from the other

Quickly it felt, as time slipped through our hands

When the train finally did come

We had no choice but to get on at opposite ends

Out of fear that we’d miss this train

We tried searching high and low for the other in the sea of passengers awaiting their end

But who knows if we’ll find each other in the same car again

I’d like to think I’d remember those eyes – hazel at their core but peppered with green when the sun hit just right

But it’s been so long since I last saw them

I’m not too sure

One can only hope you remember my lips with their deep pout and the way in which they outline my smile when you made me laugh

But it’s been quite some time since you saw them last

So I can’t be too sure either

Maybe now all we can do is cherish the memories ingrained upon us

Our faces and features leaving lasting impressions in the back of each other’s minds

As we remain at opposite ends of the train awaiting our end
